Khairy: No Use Overreacting Over Dubious Blog Posts

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin advised the society to not to be too emotional when retrieving information from the social media.

He said each individual who wishes to obtain information from social media needs to ensure the accuracy of the information sources to avoid making incorrect conclusions over issues.

“We need to find the true facts. If we, for example, make an assessment based on information that we get from an unreliable blog, indirectly, our conclusions will be wrong,” said Khairy (pic).

“I hope more people will find the true facts and not be overly influenced by emotional, political or racist sentiments. We need to remember that there are second or third point of views behind every story,” he added.

Khairy, who is also the member of parliament for Rembau, also reminded the public to stop from assuming that every political blog is the official tongue of certain parties.

He said every political bloggers have their own opinions and that not everything being published on their blogs reflects a party’s stance.

“There are differences between party’s official tongue and party’s supporters. The Umno Youth’s official tongue is Unit Media Baru Umno (UMB),” he said after the Worlds Bloggers & World Social Media Summit to which he was a guest speaker.

The World Bloggers & Social Media Summit held from Feb 13-14 as part of the Malaysia Media Social Media Week (MSMW) 2012.

Organized by the Social Media Chambers (SMC), MSMW 2012 is being held at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) from Feb 13-17.
