Penang Umno is demanding an apology from Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for allegedly accusing that Penang Umno was behind street demonstrations held outside his office and on the Penang Bridge on July 1 and an arson attempt at Penang DAP's office on Aug 17.
Its chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman said Penang Umno had sent a notice to Lim demanding an apology within seven days failing which Penang Umno would initiate a RM30 million defamation suit against him.
"If we win the case, we will use the money to help needy people like orphans and single mothers," he told reporters here Tuesday.
He said Penang Umno was not involved in the demonstrations or the arson attempt and that Lim's alleged accusations had tarnished the image of Penang Umno and Umno.
“We call on the police to carry out a thorough, free, fair and without-fear-or-favour probe,” he added.
